July 26th, 2012

WATERTOWN, Mass.—The Sandcastle Girls, a novel on the Armenian Genocide by Chris Bohjalian, will debut on the New York Times Best-Seller List on the newspaper’s website tomorrow, July 27, the Armenian Weekly has learned.

The Sandcastle Girls is currently seventh on the best-seller list, which will appear in the published Aug. 5 issue of the New York Times.

The author of 15 novels, Bohjalian is not a stranger to the New York Times Best-Seller List. His novels Midwives (1997), The Double Bind (2007), Secrets of Eden (2010), and Skeletons at the Feast (2008) have reached #1, #3, #6, and #15, respectively, on the list.

Yesterday, The Sandcastle Girls also debuted between #3 and #11 on the regional independent bookstore bestseller lists. In independent bookstores in New England and California, the novel was the #3 and #6 most-sold book, respectively.

The Sandcastle Girls was launched by the ANC Grassroots at a sold-out luncheon in Los Angeles on July 16. It was released nationwide on July 17.

Published by Doubleday in the U.S., it will be published by Simon and Schuster in the UK in August, and released internationally in the coming months.

The novel has received stellar reviews from dozens of publications nationwide, including the Washington Post, USA Today, the Boston Globe, the Associated Press, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, Entertainment Weekly, and People Magazine. On July 23, it was announced the Book of the Week on Oprah.com.

Bohjalian is currently on a three-week book tour to more than 20 cities.

Armenian Americans and interested readers may purchase ‘The Sandcastle Girls’ online from Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and Indibound or from their local book sellers.
