Կովկասյան մարեհավ (“Kovkasyan marehav”)

Status

Was Included in the first edition of the Red Book of the former Soviet Union. Was not in the second edition since the number increased due to the measures of protection taken. Disappearing species for Armenia.

Habitat in Armenia

Registered in the northern hills of Ariler mountain, on the height of 1500 – 2700 meters above sea level. Recently registered in Kapan, Ijevan, and Vanadzor regions.

Number in the wild

Was never a widely spread bird, and hunting was always forbidden in Armenia. The biggest group was me in Bargushat – 70 birds. Nowadays the overall number does not exceed 300.

Reasons for decrease in number

Intensive use of the territories for agricultural purposes, particularly for sheep breeding. Poaching.

No data.

Measures of protection taken

Hunting is forbidden in the territory of Armenia. Included in Dilijan and Shikahogh Nature Reservess. Included in the Appendix 2 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
