Maxim Gorky (Максим Горький), was a Russian/Soviet author, a founder of the socialist realism literary method and a political activist.
In the year of 1916 the "Collection of Armenian Literature" edited by Maxim Gorky, was published in Saint Petersburg (officially called Petrograd at the time).
After a visit to the Ararat Brandy Factory, he declared, "It's easier to climb Mt. Ararat than to climb out of the Ararat cellars." This was in reference to his love of the brandy being aged there, not to the stairs.
