Emil Sanamyan is a writer and commentator on Armenia, Azerbaijan and the wider region. He is currently a senior fellow at the University of Southern California's Institute of Armenian Studies and contributes regularly to CivilNet.am. You can follow his work on twitter @emil_sanamyan.
From 2006 to 2014 Emil worked for the The Armenian Reporter, a U.S.-based publication, first as its Washington Editor and then as Editor-in-Chief. From 2000 until 2006 he was a Research Officer at the Armenian Assembly of America and from 1998 to 2000 he worked in the Office of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic in the United States.
Emil was born in Baku, then part of the Soviet Union. Forced to leave amid anti-Armenian violence, his family received refugee asylum in the United States. In 1995 Emil volunteered in Tatev Village as part of the Land and Culture Organization. Emil received his BA at the University of Arizona and MA at Virginia Tech.
Emil and his wife Oksana were married at Gandzasar in 2005, they have a daughter Katya and son David.
