Dennis Papazian

Dr. Dennis R. Papazian, is Professor Emeritus (Retire) and founding director of the Armenian Research Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He was broadly educated at Cass Technical High School, the chief magnet high school in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Wayne state University where he received a BA in history and philosophy and an M.A. in East European Studies. He attended special courses of study at Harvard University, the Ohio State University, Middlebury College, ended graduates research for his PhD at Moscow state University in Moscow, USSR. He taught and was in administration at the University of Michigan-Dearborn from 1962 until his retirement in 2002. He was also the founding director of the Armenian Assembly of America, a national public interest organization, and was chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alex Manoogian cultural fund. he is an active member of the Armenian church of America ( Eastern diocese), where he is currently a member of the Board of Trustees. He has served as a member and officer of the Diocesan Council, chairman of the Diocesan Assembly, and was elected twice to represent the Diocese at the Ecclesiastical Assembly of the Armenian Nation, where he was honored to vote two times sequentially the head of the church, the Catholicos.

Doctor Papazian is a noted author, lecturer, commentator and public intellectual who has given academic papers in Armenia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Israel, and other countries.

He currently lives in New Jersey with his wife, Mary, is Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Lehman College, CUNY, and their two daughters, Ani and Marie.
